Book Review of Behind the Mask by Elizabeth D. Michaels

I just finished reading Behind the Mask (Horstberg Saga Book One) by Elizabeth D. Michaels and I loved it! It was the perfect balance of romance, intrigue & mystery, and spiritual enlightenment. There were so many characters at the beginning of the novel whose lives were all interrelated and connected, that I had to go back are re-read the beginning half way through the novel. Now that I’ve finished it, and know all of the big twists & turns in the storyline, I want to start over and read the whole thing again! I won’t give away the secrets, but here is the basic storyline: The main female character, Abbi first meets the main male character, Cameron in a dream. She is drawn to him because it feels as if they were meant to be together. But he is a bitter, cruel man who is hiding from his past and has been framed for murder. He is hesitant to even tell her his name because he knows that the secrets he holds could get both of them in serious trouble. After falling and injuring her ankle, Abbi is stranded with Cameron in a remote cabin and snowed in for an entire winter. She slowly breaks down his walls, forces him to face his past, and he agrees to return to civilization to face the future and the promise it once again holds. But it’s not that easy. Once Abbi goes home in the Spring, Cameron still has to avoid being caught while attempting to prove his innocence and get his life back. But Cameron has one very big secret that he can’t tell Abbi lest he put her life at risk as well. While waiting for the man of her dreams to return to her, Abbi is pursued by several powerful men, including the tyrannical Duke and his Captain of the Guard, both of whom wish to make her his wife. She is forced to lead them on as a distraction to allow Cameron to position himself to be able to once again reclaim all that he has lost. The resolution of this main conflict is only half the story! I can’t even tell you the rest or I’ll spoil the surprises! I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series! Have you read Behind the Mask by Elizabeth D. Michaels?
